“Terrible! Just found out Obama had my “wires tapped” in Trump Tower just before the victory. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism,” types the current president of the United States, Donald J. Trump, on March, 4th 2017.  Former president of the United States, Barack Obama was livid over Trump’s extreme allegations. CNN states that “Obama was irked and exasperated in response to his successor’s uncorroborated wiretapping accusation,” according to sources close to the former president. “Obama’s reaction stopped short of outright fury,” the cable network reports.

What supports Trumps extreme allegations? What evidence does he have to support his claims?

Trump’s tweets claims he “just found out” about “the fact that President Obama was tapping my phones in October”, but hasn’t offered any evidence to support his claim. The White House communications staffers have had a hard time defending Trump’s allegations in television appearances over the last forty-eight hours. Asked whether he knew of any wiretapping of Trump’s phones, Government Official Clapper told NBC’s “Meet the Press” he denied that Trump’s phones were tapped.

What are people saying about these extreme claims?

Former deputy national security adviser Ben Rhodes tweeted back at Trump, “No President can order a wiretap. Those restrictions were put in place to protect citizens from people like you.” Obama’s former speechwriter, Jon Favreau says, “I’d be careful about reporting that Obama said there was no wiretapping. Statement just said that neither he nor the WH ordered it.”
