Columbia Landslide Kills Hundreds

Jacob Hernandez, Reporter

On Saturday, April 1st,  a landslide hit the city of Mocoa in Columbia. The landslide has already left over 250 dead, including 62 children. 203 people were injured with many in critical condition and there are still hundreds missing. Most people were not able to react to the mudslide, as it occurred during the early morning when most people were sleeping. The cause of the mudslide was due to heavy rainfall the city had been experiencing which led to the Mocoa river overflowing and eventually causing the mudslide. About 600 survivors are in temporary shelters and are on high alert as another mudslide could happen with more rain expected to come.
