Senior Q&A: Elena Esquivel

Q: What has your best memory been at Sahuaro?

A: My best memory at Sahuaro occured during freshman year.  My buddies and I have the same lunch and we used to sit on the benches near the tennis courts. We’d find tennis balls from the tennis practice and throw them against the wall, playing wall ball. I threw the ball at my friend and it skinned the baby hairs off the top of her head. Then it bounced to my other friend and struck her in the face. It was a “you had to be there” moment.

Q: What are your plans after high school?

A:   Once I’m graduated, I plan on attending Amarillo Community College to get my basics done, then I’m going to apply to Baylor or Texas Tech for their medical school.  I plan on becoming an anesthesiologist.

Q:How long  have you been playing softball for?

A: I have been playing softball for eight years. I started playing in fourth grade, on a Little League team, where I decided I enjoyed playing a sport where I get the chance to make friends and memories.  I then decided to play club softball my freshman year and it was the best decision I’ve ever made.

Q: What are three fun facts about you?

A: I know every 21 pilot song ever made and could probably recite the lyrics backwards,  I want to make my truck a classic, I’ve already got 14 years on it, which is a good start,  and I would wear sweaters every day if I could.

Q: Give your freshman self advice.

A:  If I could give my freshman self any advice it would probably be to be more outgoing and spontaneous, rebel more, don’t waste your money on school lunch, don’t take a bite of that sushi with the piece of shrimp on it, and work harder in your math classes.

Q: What do you feel will be your legacy left here at Sahuaro?

A: My legacy here at Sahuaro would be to have the nicest truck in the parking lot.

Q:If you could change one thing about your high school experience what would it be?

A:  If I could change one thing about my high school experience, it would be to learn to read music and join the marching band.

Q: What is your motto in life and why?

A:  My life motto is ” Work quicker so you can do nothing”  because if I do my work and not procrastinate, I have the time to relax and have fun without stressing over work I haven’t completed.
