Chechnya Purges on Gays

Autumn Fatovich, News Editor

Beginning in April, Chechnya president, Ramzan Kadyrov,  has ordered to wipe out the gays. Over 100 gay people were rounded up by the police and were brutally beaten in secret prisons, at least three were killed. 75 people have called into LBGT hotlines in Russia pleading for help and what actions they should take. Others have fled to Moscow to receive help from activists. A survivor stated, “They immediately start the beatings and electrocutions, demanding information about who you were dating.” The guards, he said, would spit in the prisoners’ faces, and worse: “We were such hated creatures that each guard felt obliged to hit us when passing by.”      ( Sokirianskaia, Chechnya’s Anti-Gay Pogrom)

Authorities from the government are telling the parents to kill their gay children before they do. The government is basically trying to tell them to get rid of them before they come in and torture, harm, and kill  them.  They claim that this is cleaning the families honor with the blood shed.  (Independent,  Lucy Pasha-Robinson)
