On Saturday, October 2nd, 40 swimmers from Sahuaro High School competed in the U of A Swimmers Invitational. The event, held on the University of Arizona campus, was open to any school that wanted to attend, and the result was hundreds of swimmers all trying to qualify for the upcoming State championship.

Our swimmers climbed aboard a TUSD bus at  Sahuaro at 7:00 AM and headed to the U of A facility. While there, our swimmers had provisional times in 6 separate events, meaning that if there are still vacant spots in that event at State, our swimmers will have qualified. Ryan Depugh had a provisional time in the 100 Breaststroke, Landon Ogle had provisional times in the 100 Fly and 200 IM, and Zach Sierra had a provisional time in the 500 Free. Gabi Brazzell got a provisional time in the 500 Yard Free. Sahuaro also posted provisional times in the Boys 200 Relay.

Ryan Depugh, a Senior, had this to say, “There were swimmers from all over the state competing for the state qualifying times. Some events had over 26 heats. It was a great experience, and I wish I could do it again next year.”

Our swimmers will be attending two more invitationals before State in November.
