Ay caramba! Simpsons Breaks Record with 30th Season

Jordon Valenzuela, Reporter

The Simpsons has been renewed for their 29th and 30th seasons, making the cartoon the longest-running scripted TV show of all time. The sitcom will hit its 669th episode during the 30th season. Previously, that record was held by “Gunsmoke,” the Western drama that aired from 1955 to 1975, hitting 635 episodes. 28 years ago our parents were the first to see our comedic yellow family that everyone knows and loves. Wonder why The Simpsons has been on this long? It’s because they stay with the times, always making episodes that relate to people in America as in politics, social media, and other trends. With 32 Emmy awards, it can be easily said to be the best TV show ever.

The first episode of The Simpsons was aired on December 17, 1989 called “Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire” on Fox Network. On October 19, 1999 Season 3 episode 9 called “Lisa Sax”,  Bart Simpson first said his famous catchphrase: “EAT MY SHORTS!” On July 27, 2007 The Simpsons Movie was released; in Springfield the movie was released 6 days before for a premiere.

Spider Pig was almost 10 years ago. I still remember going to the theater to watch the movie with my family.  My brother and mother were most excited to see it because that was the show they both loved a lot. Do you remember seeing it when it first came out? By the end of the 30th season, the show will either end or get another renewal.  To date, “The Simpsons” is averaging 7.2 million viewers across all platforms for its current season, which airs Sunday nights on Fox.
