On March 28, 2017 Nicole Cevario, a known honor student, was charged with possession of explosive and incendiary material with intent to create a destructive device.

Why did this happen?

Nicole Cevario planned to shoot up Catoctin High School in Thurmont, Maryland.  Her plot was uncovered last week after her father read her plans in a diary and told local officials. Authorities searched the 18-year-old’s home and found a shotgun with ammunition and bomb-making materials including pipes with end caps, shrapnel, fireworks, magnesium tape and fuse material. Investigators also found Cevario’s diary, which contained clear plans for the massive school shooting. She planned to carry out the attack on April 5, and even talked with a school resource officer about how police respond to shooting incidents.

What’s going to happen to Nichole Cevario?

She is currently undergoing a psychological evaluation at an unknown hospital. The charges Cevario faces carry a maximum sentence of up to 25 years in prison.
