After a tremendous season, our lady Cougars Softball season unfortunately came to an end in the championship game. The game was played Monday, May 15th on the Arizona State University softball field as part of the 2017 AIA Softball State Championships. Sahuaro matched up against fellow Tucson school, Cienega. Overall, the team finished with a 27-11 record.

The girls traveled to Phoenix in the U of A Football bus, and were greeted by several hundred spectators in the arena. Cienega scored home runs in the first and second innings, while our Sahuaro offense struggled to put points on the board, going scoreless until the fifth inning. Our Cougars attempted to rally in the seventh, but were shutdown by Cienega’s stingy defense. The final score of the game was 4-1 in favor in Cienega.

Lexy Coons, Sahuaro’s pitcher and one of the best players in Arizona, said, “This season was the best I’ve had so far, and by far one of my favorite seasons. I loved all the girls and all the coaches were very supportive, thank you!”
