How To Nail A Job Interview

How To Nail A Job Interview

Sidney Moyers, Associate Editor-in-Chief

We all dread going to job interviews, but whether we like it or not, we all have to suffer through them. In order to save you some trouble, why not learn how to do it right the first time so you don’t have to show up to so many?

1. Do Your Homework – Make sure you are familiar with the company and the people behind the operations. Research the company and find out any news surrounding them. Try to discuss future plans with the interviewer so they know that you’re interested in the growth of the company.

2. Rehearse, Rehearse, Rehearse – Be prepared for anything and everything. It is important to be ready for whatever they might say so you don’t freak out and you can get through the interview seamlessly. This will help both you and the interviewer.

3. Make Small Talk – While it’s probably not a good idea to just babble about unrelated topics throughout an interview, don’t be scared to get to know your interviewer. You can always make it relevant to the interview as well. Volunteered at a homeless shelter last weekend? Don’t be scared to weave it into the conversation to make yourself look better. Hey, no shame in your game.

4. Ask Your Own Questions – Not only is the company trying to see if you’re a good fit, but you should also be making sure that the company would work for you. For example, if they’re a makeup company that tests on animals and you’re not okay with that, try looking for a company that would suit you better.

5. Be Confident – Last but certainly not least, be confident. It’s obviously not a good idea to walk in and act like you own the place, make sure to be self-assured. If you seem really uneasy, that can often been seen as a bad sign from your interviewer.

Everyone gets nervous when it comes to interviews, but if you follow these steps, you’ll have a better chance at getting the job of your dreams, or the less than sub-par job because you need the money. Either way, remember that you know your stuff and you’re fully capable of getting the position you want. You can do it!
