Mr. Halfmann is Retiring

Haydee Pedersoli and Sidney Moyers

At the end of this school year, Michael Halfmann will publish Sahuaro 50th yearbook edition, and his last one.  Come May, we are forced to say goodbye to the wonderful yearbook and photo teacher, Mr. Halfmann. After spending seven years at Buena High School and 18 years here at Sahuaro, he decided it was time for him to retire and focus on himself (pun intended).

Mr. Halfmann didn’t always want to be a teacher. In fact, when he graduated from high school, he actually wanted to be an engineer because he was good at math and science so naturally, he thought he should do something that involved these subjects. However, he decided to pursue a career as a photographer, working in a studio as well as in photo journalism.

One of his favorite times working at Sahuaro was when his wife, Meilii, worked here with him and his daughter and son were students here as well. The whole family was involved in sharing accomplishments together. While going to school with your parents may seem like a nightmare to some, the Halfmann family are tight-knit and love spending time together.

Once Mr. Halfmann actually retires, he would like to be able take pictures of things for himself since he has always taken pictures for other people. He also said that he would also like to get involved in concert photography as a side job. His favorite style of photography is photo journalism because of the realism of the pictures.

In addition to spending time doing photography, he hopes to do other things, like spend time with family and friends.  One of his favorite quotes is: “I value the friend who for me finds time on his calendar, but I cherish the friend who for me does not consult his calendar.” -Robert Breault

Senior Shelby Neelan reported, “Out of all the teachers I’ve had at Sahuaro, he is by far one of the few teachers I’ll miss because of his classroom environment.”
