Unpopular opinion: I didn’t hate Justin Timberlake’s halftime show. However, I will concede that it wasn’t as amazing as typical Super Bowl halftime shows are. In all honesty, it felt like he was performing a normal – and slightly uncoordinated – concert crammed into 15 minutes.

The real controversy stemmed from the Prince tribute that many people were just not thrilled about. Justin Timberlake performed one of the late singer’s hits, I Would Die 4 U, while a video of Prince performing was playing on a screen behind him. Many fans were upset by this tribute, saying that Prince would not have wanted it, given the rocky relationship the two stars once had.

The intro of his performance was not amazing, as some of the vocals during his song Filthy sounded off and the dancing wasn’t exactly wonderfully coordinated. However, I personally thought that he brought it back with his performance of Mirrors, which is my favorite song of his. He brought out hundreds of dancers with mirrors, which were flashed to the rhythm of the song. Timberlake concluded his performance with Can’t Stop the Feeling, which was on the Trolls movie soundtrack.

The only genuinely bad part of the show was Timberlake’s outfit. Seriously, who dressed him? The camo on camo with the red bandana scarf was certainly a statement, but not a very good one.

Overall, there was nothing that I found super unbearable about his performance. It just wasn’t great compared to other Super Bowl halftime shows.
