Cheer Tryouts are right around the corner. Open gym practices begin today and will continue on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays until May tryouts. Everyone is welcome to tryout and it gives you a great opportunity to decide if cheerleading is right for you! I asked Coach Bradley a few questions and these are her responses:

Q: Can anyone tryout or do you have to meet certain requirements?

A:Anyone that is a current student at Sahuaro can try out in the first round of tryouts held at the end of May. If you do not make the team in May, there is a final round of tryouts in early August.

Q: What positions can you tryout for?

A:There are not specific positions to try out for. You are trying out to be on the varsity team, however seniors that make the team will have the opportunity to be Captain to Co-Captains.

Q:How many people can be on the team?

A:I have not made my exact decision on how many people I will be placing on the varsity squad this year. Typically it is between 25 and 30.

Q: Can boys tryout as well?

A:Yes! We are always interested in having boys on the team!

Q:How do you determine who gets in?

A:There are tryout practices that are completed with a final evaluation. In your final evaluation the athlete is expected to perform cheers, dances, stunts, and tumble. All of which will be taught prior to the final tryout.

When I asked her if she had any advice for people who are trying out, she replied,”Come with a positive attitudeĀ and a smile on your face! Cheer leading is about bringing school spirit to the school, keep that in mind!” If you aren’t feeling confident to tryout Ms.Bradley’s advice for you is, “Practice in the mirror! Or in front of friends and family! Spend time doing research on cheerleading and how to prepare for cheerleading.”
