Freshman Sam Kerr has been creating art since she was around 2 or 3 years old. She works with watercolor, copic markers, pencil sketches, and she’s begun to learn about charcoal in art class. Her favorite utensil is a mechanical pencil and her favorite drawing is of 2D from the band Gorillaz. Jamie Hewlett, the co-creator of Gorillaz, and Walt Disney are two of her biggest inspirations for some of her artwork.

“I know it sounds kind of cliché, but how they came from nothing and became something really inspires me,” she said. Sam’s aunt actually gave her a job offer to help her illustrate children’s books. Her art teacher, Mrs. Kimbley, said, “Sam is a wonderful combination of creative, resourceful, observant, and teachable. In addition to possessing considerable natural talent, Sam works to hone her craft and is excellent at pushing the creative boundaries within the guidelines given for any project she works on.”
