Fresh Face: Raquel Martinez

Fresh Face: Raquel Martinez

Denise Najera, Reporter

Raquel Martinez. Another Freshman here at Sahuaro. And to her surprise, she finds it to be “Pretty okay”. I asked her about how her high school experience has been so far, and what was surprising her most about high school.

“Well, what surprised me most was I thought there was going to be a lot more work, but it’s surprisingly easier. Actually easier than middle school work.” She goes on to say that she finds Sahuaro to be alright, it maybe could be a bit better in offering more opportunities not just for Seniors. Originally though, she actually didn’t want to go to Sahuaro. “I didn’t want to go here, my sister did. I originally wanted to  go to Santa Rita or maybe Tucson High, but my sister came here, and wherever she goes I go.” Although that happened, she finds herself enjoying her freshman experience so far. Many people told her that in high school, it was difficult to make friends, but she has already made tons of new friends and has come to grow awesome relationships with her teachers.

Raquel went to Secrist Middle School. I asked what she was going to miss most about it and she told me that some friends and teachers would definitely be missed. “It was a journey, that’s for sure. I feel like middle school was where everyone was discovering who they were and who they wanted to be.”

(Number 4)

Martinez also plans on doing many sports and clubs at Sahuaro. “I am currently doing pre-softball season and it’s going great. “I also want to do soccer and track. For clubs, maybe I’ll do crew club. I like helping set up with all the sports games or concerts. It would be fun.”  Speaking of sports, Raquel likes to play sports on her free time as well. She has been playing volleyball since 6th grade, although she decided not to do it this year and try other things.

In fifteen years Raquel sees herself working in the forensic department as a Homicide Detective. She wants to go to UofA or GCU and get her education there. “I love solving all those creepy cases and figuring out what goes on in the minds of criminals.” A show she likes to watch is ’20/20 Dateline’ exactly because of what she’s into.

This issue’s Fresh Face, Raquel Martinez – on her way to make the most out of her high school years.
