Celia Barquin won the European Ladies’ Amateur championship in July and was a top athlete at Iowa State University. Celia was 22 at the time and on Monday September 17, 2018 she was found stabbed to death. Police found her body at Coldwater Links Public Golf Course near Iowa State University. Earlier that morning a few older guys golfing at the time, noticed she was golfing alone. They later found her clubs and cell phone lying on the ground but she wasn’t anywhere to be seen. The man who killed her was identified as a homeless 22 year old man, Collin Daniel Richards. According to acquaintance interviews, a non-identified acquaintance informed police Richards had “made a statement to the effect of having an urge to rape and kill a woman.” The police found Richard in a tent, covered in scratches and also found clothes covered in blood with a knife. He was arrested later on Monday and is being held on a $5 million cash bond and has not yet entered a plea.
