Sahuaro Girls Basketball played in the sixth annual Coaches vs Cancer basketball game against Catalina Foothills on Thursday January 17. The event had a silent auction which included many items including a Valentine’s Day basket, Barbecue basket, Avon basket, Bath basket, a Fitbit, A Wildcat Fan Dream Ticket package including 5 ( Row 17) Arizona Men’s Basketball tickets with a parking pass on the lawn for Saturday, 2-9-19 vs. Washington State, 4 Softball tickets under the overhang at Hillenbrand Stadium and 3 Baseball tickets under the overhang behind home plate. All proceeds earned at the game, including concessions, tickets, and the money from the silent auction will be donated to the American Cancer Society.

The game however, had a very interesting start. Near the end of the JV game, the scoreboard turned off and Sahuaro staff were unable to get it working again so for the rest of the game, the clock was said out loud and the score was done by a flap scoreboard. Unfortunately the problem was not fixed by the start of the varsity game, and the score was still done by the flap scoreboard and the clock was announced by a person over the microphone. That did not faze the Cougars however as they got off to a fast start and went on a 20-2 run to start the game. They did not let down at all, and by the end of the first quarter the score was 24-3. Throughout the rest of the game, the Cougars dominated throughout and easily won the game 75-16.
