On Friday January 8th, in central Mexico (Tlahuelilpan, Hidalgo), a gas pipe exploded, killing 91 people and injuring over 20 others.

Mexican Police say that the explosion was caused by an illegal tap in the piping. Mexico has recently had multiple problems with fuel thefts. The governor of Hidalgo, Omar Fayad, has in the past warned the people  “not to be accomplices.” He said the practice was not only illegal, but it also “puts your life and families at risk.” Hours before the explosion, footage was released of people using buckets to collect the gas spewing out.
