The governor of Virginia, Ralph Northam, has been asked to resign as governor because of old yearbook racist photos that have surfaced.

The picture appears to be of two men, one is someone in blackface next to another person who is dressed in a Ku Klux Klan hood and robe. The picture was found in Northam’s old yearbook photos from 1984. It is still unclear who exactly the men in the picture are, but since it was found on the same page dedicated to the governor, public outrage ensued.

Now, the 59-year-old Democrat is “consulting with top administration officials Monday about whether he should stay in office or resign amid an uproar over a racist photo on his 1984 medical school yearbook page.”

In addition, this whole situation is turning out to be even more problematic. If Northam were to resign, the current Lieutenant Governor, Justin Fairfax, will be taking his place as governor. Now the problem is, Fairfax has been accused of a rape allegation. He has denied a uncorroborated allegation of sexual misconduct, telling reporters that the encounter with the woman was consensual. Although he says this, the whole situation has the authorities feeling he is also unqualified for the job.

Now, everyone is in stress mode as they scramble to find out who really should be the Governor of Virginia. Northam met up with his Cabinet and senior staff. Secretary Aubrey Layne said he told Northam that the state cannot afford a prolonged period of uncertainty over his future.

“One way or the other, it needs to be resolved,” Layne said. For now, Governor of Virginia is still Ralph Northam.
