We find out more and more about space all the time. Recently, scientists discovered there are over 39 new galaxies! Which is huge news to astronomers and everyone on this earth. If it doesn’t seem like a big deal, this could change the way we think of the beginning of everything, “the beginning of the cosmos”, or change how we think of our whole universe. If you aren’t a believer, or you just don’t really care, there’s more to the story.  The data gathered from two telescopes and a radio dish array in Chile, also revealed they are billions of light-years away, generating thousands of stars that are the size of the sun, per year! Imagine looking up to the night sky to watch the tiny balls of gas in the sky and seeing them all being the size of the sun.

This was a big hit for scientists everywhere; it gave them a new way to think about the universe with endless possibilities. Scientists can finally look deeper into the universe, they’re looking to uncover the reasons behind dark matter and super massive black holes.

“This is the first time that such a large population of massive galaxies was confirmed during the first two billion years of the 13.7-billion-year life of the universe,” Tao Wang, from the University Of Tokyo says. These galaxies have traveled through space, that’s why they’re very faint and invisible to the normal human eye, and haven’t been noticed for all the time they’ve been up there. They’re very faint to see for scientists as well, which is also helpful.  Through time, they will be able to say how far the galaxies have traveled over their life span.

What’s going to happen next? Well, the scientists are planning on studying them and to learn how they first formed, learn more about the black holes within them, and hopefully figure out the origins of the universe. Who will know what will come, maybe we won’t learn anything, or maybe we’ll find planets inside the galaxies and find extra-terrestrial beings? Maybe we’ll mess up really bad and somehow get sucked into a black hole. We’ll have to wait to see what those galaxies have in store for us.
