The Avengers are gone, so what’s next?

First, some background:

The MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) has been around since its first movie, Iron Man, came out in 2008. Not every Marvel character is in the MCU, due to character rights ownership. Some characters that are included in the MCU are the Avengers, The Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain Marvel, Black Panther, Doctor Strange, and the list goes on. Spider-man is in some MCU movies like Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame, but this is only due to a contract with Sony, who owns the character. Further details can be found in my other article here.

The last Avengers movie was Avengers: Endgame of 2019, this movie was quite the rollercoaster, with some of our most beloved characters dying, to seeing every MCU hero come together to fight and defeat Thanos. So, now that our famous superheroes are disbanded, what now? Well, something called phase four. In the Marvel cinematic universe, there are phases. Phase one includes movies made from 2008-2012, phase two includes movies made from 2013-2015 and phase three-2016-2019. Now, the timeline in the movies is a bit different from Endgame leaving us in the year 2023. Next up is phase four, this includes the upcoming films and television shows of Black Widow (2020), The Eternals (2021), an untitled Spider-Man sequel (2021), Loki, WandaVision, and Ms. Marvel, to name a few.

Now, let’s see what some fans think; personally I just can’t wait. Here are some of the opinions of our fellow Cougars.

“I believe that the movies that have already finished production will be fine, but the movies that are still being made won’t be fine because they will skip steps.”- Juliana Levy

“Hmmm I mean I feel it might not be as strong as the previous phase, but it will always be something new that can be appreciated in a different way, you know? However, we’ll always have that preconceived notion of how marvel movies should be structured from the older classic movies, i.e. iron man and such.”- Sam Kerr

” I have high hopes for the new Doctor Strange, Spiderman, and Black Widow. I think the Disney plus shows are going to be cool as well… I know at least a few more are promising.”-Jacob John

It is only up for time to tell if these movies and television shows are any good. Unfortunately, it will be some time due to the delays, but it doesn’t make the fans less excited. Marvel movies have been around for quite a while, and they won’t be going away anytime soon!
