What else could go wrong in 2020? Oh yes, the election. Based on all the controversy I see on the news and hear in my own life, it seems like people are going to get real mad if Trump stays President and people are going to get real mad if Biden becomes President. These days, political parties are splitting up the nation instead of bringing it together. It is unpredictable how people may react this election year.

Every Republican I listen too blames the Democrats and every Democrat I listen too hates on the Republicans. It is more like “Proud to be a Democrat/Republican” than “Proud to be an American.” Adults cannot have a civil conversation together once they find out they believe in a different political systemFamilmembers will unfollow each other on Facebook when they do not agree with the other family member’s political opinion. People do not understand by holding on to their strong opinions and ridiculing others for theirs, it is dividing the country more than uniting it, which the “United” States of America claims to be all about. Unity.

A main reason for this huge gap of unity between Democrats and Republicans is because of technology. You can click to news channels that are more left or right and hear what you want to hear, even if it may not be true. Your social media accounts are programmed to show your interest. If you follow Trump on social media and like a republican post on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter, your account will show you more of these posts. Everyone knows that you cannot always believe what the media tells you. Yet, we base our prime knowledge of what we now about politics and politicians on the mediawhich is mostly propaganda to keep you on their channel or site for more money. This effects Democrats and Republicans because social media is where everyone wants to express their feelings and persuade people into thinking like them. Bringing the Democrats closer together and more hateful towards the Republicans, vice versa. Making the unity of all the people in America weaker.

Even George Washington warned us about political parties and how they could be destructive in the future to our nation in his farewell letter. “However political parties may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion, sited on mountvernon.orgWelp, there is no denying George Washington was wrong. Election year 2020 should be an interesting one. Let us all hope that whoever wins, the people can be civil about it and the Democrats and Republicans will not divide the country.
