On January 9th, 2021, @badwolvesofficial on Instagram posted a statement from Chris Cain, Doc Coyle, John Boecklin, and Kyle Konkiel. In this statement, it was made official that lead singer Tommy Vext is no longer a part of Bad Wolves. “It is true that Bad Wolves and vocalist Tommy Vext have parted ways. The four of us plan to continue making music and a new album is planned for later this year…” they said. It was said that Vext made his own statement in a live video which is no longer available.
Due to Vext’s political beliefs and his openness on social media towards them, it was believed that his leaving was due to ‘cancel culture’. However, Coyle and Boecklin said otherwise in a livestream on January 11th. “It’s sad to say that we had to part ways, or that [Vext] left, or that he was fired, whatever… It’s just something that had to take its course like this,” Boecklin said, “But we’re here and we’re going to write the sickest record that we’ve ever done with a new guy and you can take it or leave it… Not as, like, a threat or anything, it’s just kinda like, you know, we’re here to just do business as usual. We’re musicians and that’s all we’ve ever done. Now we’re just going to push forward.”
On January 12th, Vext issued a post and livestream recognizing his political views, his fans, and anything he has been harassed about over 2020. He said, “I voiced my disappointment of BLM protests turning into violent riots… And for this they came after me.” As an African American artist, he was attacked and so was his band for his messages. He ended his post by saying, “And to all the fans, to my friends, to my family, thank you for always supporting my voice.”
With his exiting statement, he shared that he has 37 songs as a new solo artist. He said, “Due to COVID, there was no way for the band to get together and record a record, so I worked feverishly with different artists, producers and songwriters and after 37 songs were completed, it was very clear that I had become a solo artist.” He also made a GoFundMe for his studio time to record covers and songs. With each donation will come a free copy of his album with covers.
