Recently, a Bengal tiger by the name of India was seen roaming a Houston neighborhood, just three days after it was taken away by a man accused of murder. Carol Baskin, founder of Big Cat Rescue and the star of the Netflix series, “Tiger King”, even spoke out about the tigers escape saying, “I am extremely worried about what happens with this tiger and the people around it.”

It really was an interesting story for some Houston residents when they just saw an exotic tiger roaming their yards. When Houston Resident, Jose Antonio Ramos discovered the tiger on his front yard, he thought it was part of a TV commercial…but it wasn’t. He cautiously walked outside, “Just to really make sure that what I was seeing was accurate, and basically to take a snapshot of it and alert authorities.” As he snapped shots of the tiger, he was frightened because he says the tiger “was making full eye contact with me.”

Shortly after Jose posted his photos of the tiger on a neighborhood email forum, he recalls an off-duty officer showing up and keeping his weapon trained on the tiger. One neighbor even gathered around pleading the deputy not to shoot the tiger. The neighbor, identified by police as Victor Hugo Cuevas, then straddled and grabbed the tiger and tried to move it away from others.

When officers arrived in the neighborhood, Victor Cuevas– who was free on bond for a murder charge, put the tiger in a white SUV and fled the scene. Shortly after, he was arrested but “the whereabouts of the tiger are not yet known.”

While Cuevas is now charged with evading arrest/detention with a vehicle, there is no tiger. Michael Elliott, who criticized Houston Police for arrestingĀ Cuevas says, “We are both very anxious and looking forward to doing everything we can do to find India, we want to find India.”
