Award winning female rapper and songwriter, Nicki Minaj, is topping the charts with her new hit single “Super Freaky Girl”. The song was sampled from Rick James’ smash hit “Super Freak” released in 1981. Minaj teased her version of the track on July 12, 2022, and it was officially released a month later on August 12th. Since it’s release, she has held all top 4 spots on the iTunes Charts with the original at #1, the clean version at #2, and the Roman Remix and the clean version at #3 and #4.
This is Monaj’s first lead single since 2018 with “Megatron” and her first ever #1 solo track on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. Nicki also now holds the top spot for the first female rapper in history to debut multiple songs at #1 on the hot 100, passing the only other female rapper to do – Lauren Hill in 1998 with “Doo Wap (That Thing)”.
This is Minaj’s 8th #1 chart placement on the hot 100 and her second #1 this year following “Do We Have A Problem?” featuring Lil Baby. Super Freaky Girl has also achieved the “Biggest Sales Week For Any Track This Year.” Fans believe this is Nicki’s 3rd lead single for her highly anticipated 5th studio album, which has yet to been given a release date. However, in an interview with SNL, Nicki said her album would be out “before the summer”, but now at the end of August we’re still here without an album. Due to the previous chart history of “Do We Have A Problem?”, “Bussin”, and “Super Freaky Girl” it is expected that Nicki’s album will do very well on the charts and hopefully be nominated at the VMAs for Album Of The Year.
