Who/what inspires you the most? Artist I look up to such as Lyokani Pinlinz and Zenjn. What is your favorite popular piece of art? Ace by Lyokani. What original piece are you most proud of and why? Rem Hua. It was my first digital art piece. If you were commissioned to create a great piece of art, what would you make? What medium would you use? And where would you want it displayed? A stylized portrait. Watercolor or digital painting. On their wall or the social media.

Best Thespian: Abby Woods

What is your favorite movie or play? Why? My favorite movie and play would have to be West Side Story because it is so dramatic and is filled with not only cheesy fight scenes but cool music. Do you ever get stage fright? If so, how do you cope with it? I used to get really bad stage fright but as I went on through my four years of drama at Sahuaro, it began to be more fun and less nerve-racking and I remembered it is better to look like an idiot on stage than to be boring in real life. What has been your favorite role that you’ve played? Why? My favorite role that I have ever played so far has been Taylor McKessie in “High School Musical” which was my last show at Sahuaro. Even though I am the whitest person you could ever meet. I enjoyed channeling some of her sass as well as singing those iconic songs I knew growing up. Who is your favorite actor/actress? Why? My favorite actress would be Barbra Streisand because she is so classic and musically talented. What celebrity scandal would you most likely be involved in later in life? I would probably be involved in the disappearance of my understudy if I ever make it to Broadway so I wouldn’t have to give up any shows.

What is your favorite type of dance to Dance? Ballet or Lyrical. What is your favorite type of dance to watch? Jazz. How long have you been dancing? 13 years. Have you taken any dance classes? Yes, since I was 2. I’ve done ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, lyrical, and modern. What do you love most about dancing? Expressing my feelings through music. What is the best performance you’ve ever done? The spring performance in 2014 when I performed each category of dance (jazz, hip-hop, ballet, and tap). I was center stage and was able to dance with my sister as well.

Where do you work and how long have you been working there? I work at Raising Canes. I have been working there for a little over 11 months. How  did you get the job? I always enjoyed the food sold there and I was looking for a summer job so I applied and my summer job became permanent. What do you love most about your job? What do you dislike about it? I love my co-workers, they are so fun and energetic. I dislike how busy we are every weekend because I stress out at least once every shift. Do you see yourself making a career based on the job you have? Although I’m thankful for the opportunity, I don’t want a career in the food industry, but I do hope I can use the work ethic skills I learned from there to help me with my dream job.

(Abby’s Response) When and how did you meet? We met our freshman year when we would sit in drama together with our two older brothers who were in drama because we didn’t have any friends yet. What is your favorite thing about your bestie? Least favorite? She is outgoing and really funny. Our humor together is unstoppable and she is a sister to me. My least favorite is that she screams at people on the side of the street and scares the crap out of them while we are driving. Also that she has better hair than me. What do you think your life would be like if you didn’t meet your BFF? I honestly probably would have found another one just like her. Just kidding, I probably would have died without her. If there were a movie about the two of you, who would play who? The movie would be “The Odd Couple” because we are total opposites. I would play Felix, and she would be Oscar. If both of you were stuck on a deserted island, who would survive and who would go crazy? I would definitely survive because Jazz is deathly afraid of insects and can’t live 10 seconds without her boyfriend.

(Jazmine’s Response) When and how did you meet? We met in theater while we were hanging out with our senior brothers because we were scared freshman. What is your favorite thing about your bestie? Least favorite? My favorite thing about Abby is that she is the total opposite for everything, not just skin color, but personality. We balance each other and it’s always such a blast with us together. Our humor together is great and we understand each other and nothing is my least favorite because she is one of the greatest people in my life. If there were a movie about the two of you, who would you play? The movie would be Ferris Buller’s Day Off. I would be Ferris and Abby would be Cameron. How do you express your school spirit? Getting up on the table at parties and singing the fight song, attending all sports events, and going all out during spirit week! What is the craziest thing  you’ve worn for spirit week? I did makeup as an old person and I put rolled up socks in my old lady to look like saggy boobs and I bought a cane. It was legendary. What do you wish could have been included in spirit week? Decade days, gender reversal, birthday suit day, fancy dress up day and spring Halloween. What do you love most about Sahuaro? The acceptance and love that flows around campus and the energy at all the sports games. Advice to future spirited Cougars? Don’t be afraid to go all out and be most spirited. What makes you so known throughout the school? Probably sports! But other than that I try to be social and friendly to everyone! Also my dad taught at Sahuaro for a few years so that probably helped too! How many people do you greet or talk to in the hallway every day? As many as I can! And I like talking to people and learning things about them!

What sports were you involved in and how long have you been playing each sport? One year of track (freshman year), four years of volleyball (freshman through senior) and 13 years of basketball (four years in high school). Who is your favorite sports team? Uhh I barely watch sports – I just play them. What is your best sports-related memory? We went on a trip to San Diego with my basketball team and while at the store, one of my teammates shattered a chair at the store. What has been your worst injury while doing a sport? Either breaking my wrist or my sprained ankle and both were from being clumsy.

What instrument do you play? Violin. Who gave you your first instrument and what was it? My parents rented me my first violin until we got it paid off and I got to trade it in for a nice, fancy one. Who has been the biggest influences on you? My mom has always taught me to be respectful to everyone, no matter who they are. Mr grandfather and Great grandfather influenced me greatly because they respected everyone. They showed me that you can never judge anyone because you never know what they are going through. Besides your family, who do you look up to the most? I look up to Ms. Lange the most. I look up to her because she taught us to respect ourselves and not let anyone knock us down. How often do you cook?  I actually don’t cook but I do bake, usually when I’m stressed out, which is a lot. My friends especially love it, not my stressing of course, but I use them as guinea pigs to test out new recipes. What’s the worst meal you’ve ever cooked? Pffst, I’ve never made anything bad! That’s actually a lie, my first attempt of baking was really bad. Since they didn’t bake all the way through… What is the best meal you’ve ever cooked? The best dessert I’ve made so far has been my fancy blue ribbon cheesecake. I didn’t really use a blue ribbon, it must be somewhere, but that is what the recipe is called. What would you do with the prize money? I would probably use the prize money to buy more pots and pans to further test out my baking skills. However, I think I would mostly use it on my family to support them since they have gone through many hardships when they came to America. Of course I would want to spoil them.
