Senior, Alyssa Saavedra mostly draws in pencil, but lately has been trying to use more ink, and watercolor. Her inspiration mostly comes from the female form, especially because she is a strong advocate of women empowerment.

What inspired you to start drawing?

Growing up, my dad was always drawing pictures for me and my brother. He was my inspiration to start drawing, and he and my mom have always been the biggest fans of my art.

Do you have anyone you’re inspired by?

My two biggest drawing inspirations are @xoearabella and @alythuh on Instagram. They mostly draw really beautiful women, and I try to model a lot of my art after their’s.

What would you say your art style is?

If I had to choose, I would say I do mostly modern art.

Fav artist and why?

My favorite artist is Alyssa Silos (@alythuh) because she has a very unique, and recognizable art style. She is an inspiration to young artists because she runs her business by herself, and is very successful – especially for being so young.

Is art something you would want to pursue career wise? If not, what do you want to do?

I will not be pursing a career in art. I want to get a degree in women and gender studies, and use it to work in a rape crisis center. I plan to become a victim advocate so I can help them find resources, prepare them for court cases, etc. It is a subject that I am incredibly passionate about, and I love helping others.

One word to describe how art makes you feel?

Tranquil.

Would you ever sell artwork?

I would sell my artwork, but I’ve never had any pieces that I liked enough to sell.

Any advice to others wanting to pursue art?

Take constructive criticism seriously, and never stop practicing.
