Currently in the state of Hawaii, Maui island is facing one of the most destructive wildfires the residents have ever seen. These fires were cause by the strong winds of Hurricane Dora and the dry, humid conditions of the island. USA TODAY states that the fire is affecting two cities and one county in the island: Kihei, Lahaina, and Kula. All the residents have been instructed to evacuate immediately but the officials are unsure of how many citizens were able to flee successfully and safely. Many residents had no choice but to jump into the waters to escape from the burning flames. Officials have also stated that they have no information about just how big the fires are and how much structural damage they have caused as of the last update, but we do know that the whole of Historical Lahaina and a well known sacred tree have been reduced to ashes. Interviewed survivors share their stories about losing their homes and how they were effected by the still burning fires. In order to combat the fires, Officials have called upon the Hawaii National Guard as well as almost 100 firefighters but the one road route has been a big obstacle they are struggling to overcome.
