The chain had tens of millions of loyal customers who grew up on it since it opened in San Diego Mission Gorge in 1978. There is still a “ghost ship” location similar to Tucson’s location, in Clairemont San Diego that was one of their last “new builds” and is preserved almost exactly like it was when the chain closed in 2020, painted, landscaped, fixtures and dishes inside intact. Yet there is no For Sale or Lease sign on the building. It may be tied up in court, but either way it’s a ready-made second location if the Tucson one takes off. If they need investors they only need to tap social media because there are millions of people who miss this chain and see it being the only restaurant chain victim of the pandemic as too ironic to stand.
