The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live

AMC is back with another series to leave you on the tip of your seat – The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. The series is a spin-off of the critically acclaimed The Walking Dead. The six-episode limited series has concluded, bringing the story of Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes and Danai Gurira’s Michonne to a close, but only for now (hopefully). This show follows the disappearance of Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes and whether or not he died in the show. Big shocker: Rick is ALIVE! Though we already knew he was alive because of his short cameo at the end of The Walking Dead, it is just such a relief to see him on screen again.

In The Walking Dead, Season 9 Episode 5, Rick tried to help build a bridge for trading with other communities. However, because of past conflicts, people did not agree with building the bridge and tried to sabotage the building process. The bridge was almost finished when it got overrun by walkers (the Walking Dead version of zombies), and to protect all the communities, he blew up the bridge with all the walkers on top while he was on top too. Everyone except his wife, Michonne, and his best friend Daryl, thought he died. They noticed no sign of him being dead, so they knew in their hearts that Rick was alive. He was taken by Jadis – a citizen of Ricks’s community – but she decided to leave and join the CRM (Civic Republic Military) where she felt they had a better chance at a future. While waiting at the CRM pickup site, she witnessed the smoke set up by the destruction of the bridge, and among the various walker bodies that floated down the river, she found a heavily wounded Rick washed ashore. The CRM then took Rick for many years and he was held captive, never allowed to leave, no matter how many times he tried.

Walking Dead fans are pleased to have their favorite unhinged character on screen again. Michonne was on a mission to find her lost partner, leaving her kids to do so, but she promised her kids she would bring back their father no matter what.

SPOILER: The final episode had Rick and Michonne on a mission to take down the CRM from the inside. And that they did. Rick and Michonne got to see their kids again. Rick got to see his daughter who he hadn’t seen since she was 3 years old and met his son for the first time (Michonne was pregnant when Rick disappeared). The reunion was very heart-warming and sad because you could see the guilt on Rick’s face for not being able to come home. Right now there are no current plans for a season 2, but that could change in the near future.
