School shootings are unfortunately pretty common within the U.S., and many MANY people have sadly been affected by said shootings. Just this past Monday, a student brought a loaded gun to Tucson High School, which was confiscated before anything bad could happen.  Thus far, there have been no shootings at Sahuaro, thank goodness, but one thing I often ask myself is what other kids’ thoughts at Sahuaro are on the topic at hand, and whether or not a possible school shooting is hanging over their heads every day when coming into school. Here’s what they said:

“I’d obviously be scared in this situation, for many reasons. I would almost be petrified in that situation if I’m gonna be honest here. If it wasn’t for me (most likely) thinking about my friends and teachers and how they could all possibly die, and also me probably trying to leave and save them, I would probably just sit there and try and hope I’m not gonna die.”    – Keylee Thompson, Senior

“I would be so scared I would just try and run out of the school. I don’t really care if anybody would try and stop me, I would just try and get away as fast as I can. I might try and check if my friends are okay though, but depending on my mood (I guess) that day, I would just try and run.” – Genesis Vazquez, Freshman 

“To be honest…I don’t really know. Realistically, I’d just try and run out of the school as fast as I can, since there’s like so many ways out and stuff. I think lockdowns are dumb since it’s barely gonna stop any of the shooters from getting to any of the kids. But if I had to try and do anything in that situation, I’d definitely run away.” – Zion Valencia, Freshman 

“I’d be scared probably. That’s sort of it really if I was ever in that situation. Maybe jump out a window, I don’t know, anything to get out of the school immediately.” – Devin Chilron, Junior 

Overall, this is a very sad and sensitive topic. Many people have lost not only lost their loved ones but lost their lives. It doesn’t matter where you live or what school you go to, the possibility of going through something so tragic is never zero. I hope you all stay safe and hopefully never have to experience such a tragedy.
