If you are looking for a new show to watch on Netflix here is an answer.

A surprising comedy and attention-grabbing, Derry Girls, written by Lisa McGee. It is a Northern Irish comedy that is shockingly good. It takes place in Derry, Northern Ireland (a territory in the United Kingdom) in the 90’s. A little historical background: from the period 1968-1998, The Troubles, warring between Northern Ireland and Britain, was a conflict over Catholics’ and Protestants’ view on who the territory belongs to.

The show follows a group of teenagers and their ups and downs as they live through the war and school life in general. The show has two seasons and is streamed on Netflix. The accents can be hard to understand so subtitles are recommended. The accents add a different depth and comedic affect that gives it extra character. The music in this series is fantastic, especially for fans of 90’s era music. Erin, Michelle, Claire, James, and Orla always find themselves in the weirdest, funniest, and worst situations. It is always entertaining to see what insanely bad decision they make to get themselves in such a pickle, and each episode gets funnier and funnier. It is always a surprise to see what will happen next as each episode is a new story. Unfortunately, the episodes are really short at only 22 minutes and only two seasons.

This show is one of the most underrated shows because of how obscure it is, but if you watch it, you will be pleasantly surprised and dying for season 3!
