Dacey Cervantes, Senior Spotlight Editor

As many of you know, the University of Arizona has a basketball team, a baseball team, a football team, and so much more. But did you know that they had a rodeo team? According to Sarah Nelson, a senior at the UA and the team’s president for the last two years, the rodeo team is the oldest intercollegiate rodeo team in the country.  Competitions consist of events like bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, team roping, bull riding, and tie-down roping. The team competes year-round, competing in four fall events and six spring events. While a few of their teammates compete in the Grand Canyon region.

To show their rodeo love, the UA team held flags on horseback in the front of the Tucson Rodeo Parade this year and will continue  into the limelight on Saturday, March 14 at the Pima County Fairgrounds. Slack, an event where extra contestants can join in, starts at 9:00 a.m., while the team’s performance starts at 2:00 p.m. If you love your Wildcats as much as you say you do, why not come celebrate their rodeo team!
