New Dinosaur Species Discovered

In Northwest China, 3 mysterious pre-historic dinosaurs were discovered. Two of the species that were found were unknown to researchers. The first species is named Silutitan Sinensis. “Silu” means “silk road” in Mandarin. The second species is named Hamititian Xinjiangensis, both of those words incorporate the Greek word “titan” which means “giant” representing how large they are.

Now, these two species of fossils are from 120 to 130 million years old, early Cretaceous period. These two dinosaurs are also the first vertebrates reported in the area. The third species that was found was not a new species, but might have been a somphospondylan sauropod, a dinosaur family that lived from the Late Jurassic to the late Cretaceous periods.

Silutitian is estimated to be over 20 meters long. Hamititan was 17 meters. These dinosaurs are almost as large as blue whales. Both of the new species are from the same family, Sauropod of long-neck, leaf eaters, the largest animal to walk the earth. They want to continue looking in the area because they believe there could be nests with fossilized embryos just below the surface.
