We Were Liars by e. Lockhart tells the story of the prestigious Sinclair family. They appear to have it all: beauty, wealth, and an island full of massive vacation homes all to themselves, but underneath it all they struggle to come together as a family, and consequently must overcome a tragic obstacle, as the eldest child of the family harbors a dark secret.

I really enjoyed the book. It grabbed my attention right away, making it hard to put down and I found myself very invested in the story. The book takes a very unexpected turn and made me feel sympathetic to the characters. The book seems to point out how important family is and to never take for granted what you are given in life. I think all high school students could easily relate to the teenage characters in the book and become emotionally invested to the story.

I would recommend this book to teenage girls, as it centers around a 17 year old girl and the struggles she and her seemingly perfect family must endure.
