Kyiv Rocked by Explosions from Kamikaze Drones

The war between Russia and Ukraine has been devastating, to say the least.  On Monday, Russia attacked Ukraine with drones. These attacks continue to tear up Ukrainian soil. Ukraine however, does not stop fighting back. They are determined to win this war. Ukrainian forces seem to do better on the battlefield in the east and southeast and southwest near the west bank of the Dnieper river in Kherson. Russia has increased its air strikes on Ukrainian cities.  The missiles and drones used have killed dozens of civilians since last Monday. They were attacked across Ukraine cities like Kyiv, Lviv, Dnipro, Vinnytsia, Zaporizhzhia, and Kharkiv.

As the war heightens, both Russian and Ukrainian governors announced the evacuation of more areas. Ukraine power stations have been hit by missiles and drones, causing blackouts across the country.  This war has caused death to hundreds of thousands of people from both Russia and Ukraine’s militaries and civilians combined. The war has forced millions out of their homes, sending them to seek help, safety, and shelter. This war has also caused Europe’s largest refugee crisis with more than 7 million people fleeing Ukraine. It has also caused a huge food shortage for many due to wheat prices and a massive decline in the supply of major staple foods.  The whole global economy will feel the effects of slower growth and faster inflation.

The European Parliament stated that the Sakharov human rights prize will be awarded to Ukraine. “This reward is for those Ukrainians fighting on the ground, for those who have been forced to flee, those who have lost relatives and friends, for all those who stand up and fight for who and what they believe in”, said European Parliament President Roberta Metsola.  He says no one is more deserving.
