The Alabama Brawl Goes Viral

What Happened and Why?
The Alabama Brawl Goes Viral
Zerelam

A large brawl broke out on Saturday, August 5, in Montgomery, Alabama after an African American worker attempted to clear a dock along the river so that the Harriott II Riverboat he was working on could dock. However, a moored pontoon boat blocked the Harriott II riverboat from being able to dock, causing the worker on the boat to get off and ask the family of Caucasian people to move their boat. The family refused multiple times, allegedly using an obscene amount of profanity against the worker, and started getting physical with him.  A witness says a racial slur was used before the brawl Saturday at the riverfront dock. In the videos that you can find online, you can see the worker’s famous cap thrown up in the air, almost like he was signaling for help because there was no chance he could take on that whole family alone on the dock.

People who were at the dock from all around saw that there was an altercation brewing, so a lot of people started recording or putting the fight on live. Everyone was able to see who started the fight and what exactly happened during the fight. The whole fight was so messy that four people turned themselves in to the police and have been charged with assault in connection with a brawl that broke out. Whenever there was a black person getting beaten up, more concerned black people started popping up and joining the fight. A famous meme now arises from this fight with a man picking up a folding chair and hitting people with it. This fight will definitely go down in history because of the racially motivated reasons and the funny memes that came out of it.
