Get Involved at Sahuaro! Join a Club

Every year Sahuaro High School has its annual start of the year club fair. This year, as always, clubs set up their tables, made posters, and advertised. Club fairs happen worldwide, and their main purpose is to get students involved with the school.

Aside from sports, and fine arts,  Sahuaro offers many clubs. There’s something out there for everyone to get involved – whether you’re into mechanics, culture, costume design, reading, photography, or chess – you can find your niche and make new friends.  Not all of the clubs were represented at the club fair though; the club fair only had a fraction, but a very amazing collection.

The National Honor Society (NHS) is the only club open only to upperclassmen.  NHS is run by Mr. Rutherford, who you can find in Room 100. He is a science teacher who teaches all grades at Sahuaro. He said, “Our main purpose is to help those in need while also helping the students.” NHS mainly focuses on community service, tutoring kids, and beautifying Sahuaro.

Mrs. Good is the sponsor of both Unified In Color and Black Student Union.  Unified in Color is a club that was created to celebrate all individuals. Their main goal is to make everyone feel welcome, not just one group. Anjana is the vice president of Unified In Color and a proud Pacific Islander originally from Nepal.  She says, “I want to share everyone’s story, and bring everyone together.”

If you are looking for a club to join, here is a list of the current clubs Sahuaro has to offer and their sponsors:

Sarah Bol, Reporter
Sarah is a freshman here at Sahuaro High School. She is a very hardworking student and makes an effort to do her best wherever she goes. Sarah has always been an honors student. She was an ambassador for younger kids at Magee Middle School, where she was also a part of the culinary club, writing club, kindness club, the WEB program, and TKAP. She particularly loved being a part of the Tucson Korea Ambassador Program where she got to go to South Korea for half the summer and met some amazing people. Sarah struggled through elementary school because she developed reading and writing skills way later than all the other kids, but she persevered and made the best student of herself. The people who got her through the most were her mom and her sister, Charlotte, because they always made the best example for Sarah and believed in her ability.
