Holiday Activities in Tucson You Must Get in On!

Since we are now getting into the Christmas holiday season, Tucson has many different attractions made specifically for this season to make it a little more enjoyable and exciting for all. These Attractions are all family-friendly, and some are completely free!

Jacome Plazas Christmas Tree – Come see a gigantic Christmas tree standing over 45 feet tall presented by Rio Nuevo, located in Jácome Plaza downtown (101 N. Stone Avenue). This is Tucson’s largest Christmas tree available to see, so don’t miss out.

Winterhaven Festival of Lights- For the last 74 years Tucson has been hosting the Winterhaven Festival of Lights 100% supported by the community and 100% free (unless you have to pay for parking, decide to buy food, or participate in one of the attractions). They do take donations and food for the food bank upon entering, however, it is not required. This festival consists of many different houses decorated to perfection – some with thousands of lights, others themed after Tucson icons. They offer various rides for those who don’t want to walk including Hayrides, Trolly Rides, and Party Bikes. Visit their website if you are interested in any of those and want to reserve one ahead of time.

Jungle in the Trees at Reid Park Zoo

Reid Park Zoo Lights – Every year Reid Park hosts their annual Christmas-themed zoo lights, this year presented by Tucson Electric Power and lasting from December 2nd – January 7th. The Christmas-themed Zoo consists of many different activities and views including displays, light shows, artificial snowfall, a 33-foot tree, music, photos with Santa, food, drinks, and more. Prices start at $13 for adults (ages 15-61), $11 for seniors (ages 62+), and $8 for Children (ages 2-14) and children under 2 are free. Those with zoo memberships or those who bring in food bank items are also given a discount. Check out their website for more information.

Tucson Holiday Ice – Rio Nuevo also hosts Tucson’s outdoor ice rink, lasting now through Jan. 7, 2024. It is located at 260 S. Church Ave., in front of the Tucson Convention Center Ticket Office. Tickets can be purchased online and at the event. Each session starts at a designated time and lasts for 90 minutes. Admission for adults is $22 per session, and children under 12 are $15 per session. Ice skate rentals are included in admission. The ice rink is also available for private rentals during off-hours. Various Theater Performances – Tucson has many different theaters participating in Christmas plays and music. If you are interested in seeing Mary Poppins, The Nutcracker, or other nostalgic Christmas plays, visit Tucson Topia to see what’s available.
