This past weekend, the visiting Kansas City Chiefs won against the Buffalo Bills with a score of 27-24 in the AFC divisional round in Buffalo, New York, after Buffalo’s kicker, Tyler Bass, missed a 44-yard field goal. This is the Chiefs’ sixth straight year in the AFC championship and brings the Chiefs to the last round of the AFC divisional competition.

In the first quarter, with eight minutes left, the Buffalo Bills went for a 27-yard field goal attempt and were successful, putting the Bills up 3-0. With four minutes left of the first quarter, the Chiefs made the call of a 47-yard field goal attempt from Harrison Butker, and scored, setting the game at a tie of 3-3. Harrison has had a great year, only missing two field goals throughout the entire season, though the same cannot be said about Tyler Bass, who has missed 5 this season.

The Buffalo Bills came in with the first touchdown of the night; their quarterback Josh Allen ran it into the endzone with 13 minutes left in the first half, making the score 10-3 in favor of the Bills. After an incomplete pass from the Kansas City Chiefs with 10 minutes left in the first half, they made a call for a 29-yard field goal attempt from Harrison Butker, who, once again, did not let the Chiefs down, resulting in a score of 10-6.

Though Buffalo was still winning at this point, we saw the determination in the Chiefs to pull through, with a touchdown from Travis Kelce with 3 minutes left in the half, of course with the support of his brother Jason Kelce, whose season recently ended, and his girlfriend Taylor Swift. This touchdown brought the Chiefs to the lead, with a score of 13-10.

At the end of the second quarter, with 30 seconds left in the half, Josh Allen got another touchdown for the Buffalo Bills which brought them to 17-13.

After halftime we saw another touchdown from tight end Travis Kelce, bringing the score to 20-17. Kelce showed an incredible effort this game, bringing a lot of attention to his position.

With 3 minutes left in the 3rd, Khalil Shakir, a wide receiver for the Bills, scored a touchdown, bringing the score to 20-24 Buffalo. This was a big moment for the wide receiver, given the fact that this was his first touchdown of the 2023 season.

Right at the beginning of the fourth quarter, running back Isiah Pacheco, rushed through the players, scoring a touchdown for the Chiefs. The score landed at 27-24 with 13 minutes left in the game. Though there was a chance for the Bills to swoop in and take the lead towards the end of the game, the plays started to turn flat.

At this point, there was a minute left in the game, the same score on the board, and the Bills brought in Tyler Bass for the aforementioned 44-yard field goal attempt, and he missed, leaving the score at 27-24 with the win for the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Chiefs, reigning Super Bowl champions, will now travel to play the Baltimore Ravens next Sunday for their second road playoff game. It is expected that the Ravens will win because of their higher winning record (13-4) compared to the  Chiefs’ (11-6). Though stats support that the Ravens will win, the Chiefs’ recent off-the-hook plays called by Patrick Mahomes support the idea that they have a fighting chance against the Baltimore Ravens.
