Meet Ms. Wayne – Sahuaro’s Newest Guidance Counselor

Meet+Ms.+Wayne+-+Sahuaros+Newest+Guidance+Counselor

Ms. Wayne is the newest member of staff at Sahuaro High School; she will be the counselor for students with last names starting with A-G. After Mr. Frerking left at the end of last year, some were worried that we wouldn’t be able to find a replacement, thankfully, we are in good hands with Ms. Wayne.

Ms. Wayne has 3 kids, 3 cats, and a dog. She attended college at Ohio State University, majoring in English. Once she graduated, she moved to Arizona and started out teaching at Santa Rita as an English teacher for 9 years, so she’s no stranger to how the school system works. After that, she took some time off and instead of teaching full time, she worked as a substitute teacher at Palo Verde and did other jobs at around the school such as being the librarian for a year. She then taught AVID at Palo Verde for 2 years, during which she decided, “I wanted to stay in the school system, but I didn’t want to teach anymore, and I had always wanted to try counseling.  I loved being in the school. I always felt that I had pretty good relationships with my students, I just didn’t want to do the same old lessons over and over again, but I still wanted to be in the school and be with students and help them but in a different way.” So she took the necessary classes online over the next 18 months, interviewed at Sahuaro, and here we are!

Fun fact: Ms. Wayne’s mom, Janna Acevado,  was once an assistant principal at Sahuaro.  Though she has not been here long, Ms. Wayne says she is enjoying working here at Sahuaro High School. She’s already helped several students with many things, ranging from what classes to take next year to dealing with personal issues.  Her schedule has been relatively busy since she got here, the majority of her meetings are with seniors or others trying to modify their class schedules. When asked about some things she’d want students to know before meeting her she said, “I like to read and I am a Swiftie.” Along with that, she said, “Everyone I have met has been really helpful and nice so far. The students are all awesome too!”
Ms. Wayne is an amazing addition to the Sahuaro High School family. We are happy to have her here. Welcome to Sahuaro Ms. Wanye!
