Like Lady Gaga once said, “talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show-stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique, completely not ever been done before, unafraid to reference or not reference, put it in a blender, sh*t on it, vomit on it, eat it, give birth to it,” completely yet indirectly describes the utter transformative forms of gossip. Gossip gives life a little something fun, a little spice if you will. Without it, what else would such social creatures like humans do? Be nice to one another? Boring! Gossiping is enjoyable, many people gossip just for fun or to blow off steam when you gossip with someone, you and the person you’re talking to are displaying reciprocal trust, therefore, gossip encourages social bonding.

Whether you are your workplace’s or school’s biggest gossiper or just someone who makes it look like they have no concern for people’s personal business, but you judge everyone in your head, you know that once you get in that amazing flow of talking about somebody you may like or dislike to someone else, is the best feeling. Thoughts that you have kept in your head about someone because you thought no one else would feel the same way about them finally coming out and being agreed with makes gossip all-the-more enjoyable. Gossip may even distract you from your own problems, which is exactly what some of us need in pressing times.

Sometimes, gossip comes in handy when someone deliberately goes behind your back and does you wrong. When that happens, it’s only fair to do the same to them, right? Yes, that’s correct. If you got that wrong, you must not have been reading up until this point… Blowing off steam with gossiping can both be horribly destructive, yet totally healthy at the same time. I will admit, there were times when gossip got ahold of me and made me do some questionable things to people who deserved it. The important thing is, is that when someone makes you mad, feel free to gossip, it’s healthy! Maybe even add some self-made rumors in there, but I’m not advising you to do any of that if anyone asks…

When we gossip about somebody behind their back it gives us a rush that we can share with a person and permanently bond us together. It’s science that this rush of agreement can bond us together, being the social creatures we are. Dr. Jennifer Cole, a senior lecturer in the Department of Psychology at Manchester University carried out a set of experiments to find out what people thought about gossips. She discovered that while people distrust those who gossip too much they are also wary of those who gossip too little. But Gossip does not only do all of these amazing things for the gossipers, but it also provides a reality check for the subjected person who may need it, if they are ever to find out. Totally healthy right?

In conclusion, gossiping is not only enjoyable, but it’s healthy as it allows for us to blow off steam, and even bond with one another over somebody else’s problems. So go ahead and get it all out! Gossip is the magical remedy to transformative progress and every body’s problems, well maybe not mean girl type gossip… Don’t get caught!
