Drama TV show Grey’s Anatomy, created by Shonda Rhimes, has welcomed back an important member of their cast for their unforgettable two-hour season seventeen premiere, Patrick Dempsey AKA McDreamy. The episode in which McDreamy and Meredith meet with one another in a dream-like state, but that’s all I can say before I spoil it…

However, it’s been a long seventeen seasons for Meredith Grey, so before we get into the specifics surrounding McDreamy’s dream-like return, let’s roll the tapes back to the eight times Meredith beat the odds on Grey’s Anatomy. This woman has held a bomb inside a patient’s body, only to have it explode after she handed it off; had prolonged exposure to a patient’s toxic blood caused by a chemical reaction; was knocked into hypothermia-inducing waters by a man thrashing in pain after a ferry boat accident; told a mass shooter to shoot her while she was held at gunpoint; survived a major plane crash where she witnessed her own long-lost sister’s death as well as her friend’s death; received a c-section in the middle of an electrical outage and became critically ill after; performed surgery during an earthquake; was beat by a patient resulting in her having a broken jaw; and grieved the loss of her husband and the father of her children, Derek Shepherd AKA McDreamy, played by Patrick Dempsey.

That was a lot of typing. Why, Shonda? What did Meredith do to you?

Anyways, before Patrick Dempsey departed from Grey’s Anatomy, he struggled with his marriage and was reported to be showing up late and causing problems on set. His character on the show, Derek Shepherd was then killed off, or rather wiped out, by a T-bone collision with a semi-truck. So for Derek Shepherd to be back for even one episode is a huge deal. Meredith has very much deserved to see her late husband after everything Shonda has thrown at her.
