Victoria Gomez, a sophomore at Sahuaro, is a down-to-earth person who likes everything that is awesome. As of now, she is working towards being a voice actor by taking theater, slowly building up her acting skills.  “It looks like so much fun and I love acting and anime, so why not combine them?” The trickiest thing about acting for her is trying to execute words in an authentic way, but that is why she says, “Practice is the key to success!”

As a child, her parents discouraged her from wanting to pursue a career in acting and none of the schools she attended had acting programs. Even with these things against her passion, Victoria stayed true to herself in continuing to become who she wanted. It was through the internet that she began to learn about acting and voice acting.

This passion sparked from shows like My Hero Academia to shows like Lego Ninjago. Watching people voice-act and fit in characters seems fun, creative, and rewarding to her. Being able to improvise and test out voices and characters adds to her passion for it all. If she becomes a voice actor, she wants to be able to hold a wide variety of roles. For as long as she can remember she has always thought of the fun of it all.

An average freelance anime voice actor can make around $40 per short gig; however, a professional Japanese anime voice actor can make around $540 per episode. Most of the Anime English dubbing gigs pay around $60-80 per hour. Most voice actors say that this type of career is the most exciting and rewarding job they have had. Not only is money a positive factor in this, but they get to attend conventions, meeting fans and new people. However, this is not easy to attain. To become a voice actor, you must have college-level course work, voice and acting lessons, key reading skills and -of course- a pleasant-sounding voice.

For Victoria the future is not planned, she might go to college, she might not. To avoid stress, she puts no labels on her future, though she is chasing a passion she is still riding along life.

The thing that she values the most is her family and her dogs come in at a close second. She wouldn’t be anywhere without them, (even though they annoy her). They have been her biggest support and it brings her genuine happiness to be with them. We’ll all hear her in an anime in the future!
