Rolling into the Soccer Season

Rolling+into+the+Soccer+Season

On Wednesday, September 27th, Sahuaro girls’ soccer had its first semi-official meeting. Soccer coach, Dave Kruszewski, talked about everything that should be done in preparation for the upcoming soccer season starting October 30th. The meeting started with a fairly quick introduction of the coach and the new soccer captain, Dameris Parker.

After introductions were underway, Coach K started deep diving into what needed to be done beforehand – both the physical and the ATS submission forms must be completed by the 30th to participate in tryouts. Another item on the list: preapproved NOCSAE shin guards. While cleats are not a necessary item at tryouts, these shin guards are. Girls who show up without them will not be allowed to participate until they bring them in.

Coach Kruszewski hopes to get as many girls out on the field for tryouts as possible, even girls who haven’t played before.  However, students who attempt to join late after tryouts have ended will be turned away from the team, so be sure to get out there as soon as possible!

Coach Kruszewski has been coaching Sahuaro’s girls’ varsity soccer team for over 20 years and has coached his girls to victory over 300 times. This was made official 4 years ago in 2020 when they won their match against Canyon Del Oro. Since that match, he has had 20 more wins! He has been able to bring his girls to the state championships on multiple occasions. More often than not, his players end up attending programs for college-level soccer and going on to do great things with their sports careers. He takes pride in his teams and works hard to train them for greatness.

Soccer captain Dameris Parker is a senior at Sahuaro High School and has played for the school since her freshman year. Dameris started her soccer journey when she was 3 and continuously playing for the past 14 years. “Soccer, along with my faith in God, is my escape from all my problems that are around me. As soon as I step on the field and start playing with my friends, I can just forget about everything that’s bothering me and do what I love,” she said. Dameris’s strong passion for soccer has gotten her the spot of captain. During the meeting, Coach Kruszewski stated he has a, “…large amount of trust and faith within her.” There’s no doubt about it that Dameris will continue giving it her all and be the best captain she can be for herself and the team.

For anyone interested in joining soccer, show up for tryouts (with your NOCSAE shin guards) on October 30th at 3:45!
